U.S. Solar Manufacturers Escalate Trade Disputes Amid Allegations of Unfair Practices
U.S. solar manufacturers have intensified trade tensions by filing new petitions against India and other nations, alleging illegal dumping and unfair subsidies by Chinese-owned companies. The Alliance for American Solar Manufacturing and Trade, which includes industry leaders like First Solar Inc. and Qcells, is pushing for anti-dumping and countervailing duties to protect domestic production.
The MOVE follows recent U.S. International Trade Commission rulings imposing tariffs on Southeast Asian imports, with manufacturers now targeting newer hubs linked to Chinese capital. At issue are solar panel exports from India, Indonesia, and Laos, accused of benefiting from state support and undercutting U.S. pricing—a threat to America's renewable energy ambitions.
